Join the Crew
The Annual Surf Contest runs on volunteers. Give a few hours over contest weekend and you will be part of what makes this event happen — on the sand, behind the tables, or in the chow line. No surfing required, and no experience necessary.
Where you can help
Three crews keep contest weekend moving. Pick the one that fits you best, or let us place you where you are needed most.
Welcome and check-in
Greet competitors and families, run the check-in tables, hand out wristbands, and point people toward parking, heats, and camping. A good fit if you like talking to people.
Keep the crew fed
Serve meals, keep the drink and coffee stations stocked, and help the kitchen crew stay ahead of the rush between heats. Steady work with a lot of thank-yous.
Build it and break it down
Canopies, signage, tables, trash and recycling, and keeping the beach area squared away from first light to last heat. The backbone of the whole weekend.
Good to know
A few things worth knowing before you sign up:
- Sign up for a single day or the whole weekend — every shift helps.
- Not sure where you fit? Choose All of the above and we will place you where the crew needs you most.
- The contest takes place at Churches, San Onofre, aboard Camp Pendleton.
- Volunteers without Camp Pendleton base access should also complete the base access form so entry is handled ahead of time.
- We will follow up with shift details before contest weekend using the phone number and email you provide.
